Hwang In-beom Reserved to enter the EPL

Hwang In-beom led the 2-0 team to victory on the 25th (Korea Standard Time) by starting in the semifinals of the 2023-2024 Serbia Cup against Rival Partizan at Stadion Tsurvena Zvezda in Belgrade, Serbia, playing full time and inducing an own goal.

With the victory, Zvezda is highly likely to win two gold medals this season. Currently, Zvezda is leading the Serbian Super League with 80 points, and is far from the runner-up Partizan with 70 points. As the team has advanced to the final of the Serbia Cup, it is highly regarded that it has virtually won two gold medals, unless something unexpected happens.

In the 4-1-4-1 tactic, Hwang played as a central midfielder, adding strength to both sides of offense and defense by displaying his unique mobility and keeping ability to guard and handle balls. He took the lead in scoring the first goal through bold passes, which is his strongest point.

Hwang In-beom, who caught the ball from the right side of the net at the 28th minute of the first half, avoided and kicked a left-footed cross towards the opponent team's door. His teammate Peter Olayinka connected it with a header, which deflected off the opponent team's defensive leg, and led to the goal. The goal was created by Hwang's brisk activities and simple breakthrough.

For Hwang, the game was more important than a victory. Serbian media "Informer" said, "Scouts from the EPL club will come to watch the game," adding that the reason was specifically to watch Hwang.

"Hwang can play in a better league than the Serbian league," he said. "If there is a good financial offer, Zvezda's management will consider it, and if he wants to move, he will let go." This is where discussions and timing for Hwang's transfer are expected to accelerate.

"Hwang is enjoying his best season ever." He joined Zvezda last summer at Olympiacos in Greece for a transfer fee of 5 million euros, the highest ever. Zvezda made the investment in recognition of Hwang's future potential and marketability.

Hwang In-beom also played in 22 matches in the league, and garnered four goals and four assists, perfectly living up to Zvezda's belief. With multiple positions, Hwang stood out as indispensable to the team, ranging from offensive midfielder to center and defensive player.

In particular, the UEFA Champions League also gave a clear impression by scoring one goal and one assist against Manchester City, the "EPL powerhouse." Chances are high that Zvezda will judge that this summer is the right time to send a transfer.

According to the European soccer statistics firm Huskydoc, Hwang is valued at around 6 million euros (about 8.8 billion won). Since his debut in the K League 1 Daejeon Hana Citizen in 2015, his ransom has increased six times over the past 10 years. In terms of current value, mid-range teams in the EPL are also attractive enough.

In addition, while serving in the military in 2018, he participated in the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and won a gold medal, and was discharged early, making it an attractive card as there are no obstacles to military service. Therefore, it is not expected that it will be difficult for a Korean player to enter the EPL for the 15th time.

Starting with Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo, Seol Ki-hyun, Lee Dong-guk, Kim Doo-hyun, Cho Won-hee, Lee Chung-yong, Park Chu-young, Ji Dong-won, Ki Sung-yueng, Kim Bo-kyung, Yoon Seok-young, Son Heung-min (Tottenham), and Hwang Hee-chan (Wolverhampton) advanced.

Hwang In-beom, a former Daejeon Hana Citizen Youth, made his professional debut in 2015 and settled in Zvezda after playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) Vancouver Whitecaps (2019-2020), Russia's Rubin Kazan (2020-2022) and FC Seoul (2022, lease).

He has scored six goals in a total of 58 matches since he was selected as a member of the A-team after catching the eye of former coach Paulo Bento in 2018. He played at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, leading his team to advance to the round of 16 in an away match.
